We are at the point in the NBA season when potential playoff scenarios are so complicated and confusing that your head hurts thinking about them.
For many basketball fans, that only makes it more exciting.
James L. Edwards III summed up the position the New York Knicks are in right now, and it’s very complex.
If the Milwaukee Bucks beat the Detroit Pistons once, and the Knicks win one game or the Indiana Pacers lose, the Knicks will face the Pistons in the first round.
If the Pistons beat the Bucks twice, the Knicks win one of their two final games, or the Pacers lose, the Knicks will face the Bucks.
And if the Knicks lose their final two games and the Pacers win their final two, they will jump over the Knicks.
It’s a lot to keep up with, so the bottom line is this: Knicks fans need to be watching every game and paying close attention.
Updated Knicks scenarios:
— MIL beats DET once, NYK win one game or IND lose, NYK faces DET
— DET beats MIL twice, Knicks win one of final two or Pacers lose, NYK face Bucks
— Knicks lose final two, Pacers win final two, Pacers jump Knicks (face either DET or MIL)

New York’s last two games of the regular season are against the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Brooklyn Nets.
The Cavaliers will be tough, but the Knicks should be able to get past the Nets.
But this update from Edwards makes it clear that New York’s fate isn’t all about how they perform, and they need to be concerned with how other teams in their conference do.
The Knicks have sat toward the top of the Eastern Conference all year, constantly behind the Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers.
But there are still fears that they won’t have what it takes to go far in the playoffs, partly because of their history of injuries and how hard head coach Tom Thibodeau works them.
Who will they play, and how will they do in the opening round?
Knicks fans are waiting for the answer.
